New York City has waited seven seasons for an exciting and respectable basketball team, and thanks to Amar’e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony the New York Knicks are once again relevant. The Knicks had been absent from the NBA playoffs for the past seven years, and fans were irate and embarrassed with their team’s performance.
As the 2010-2011 season progressed, the Knicks’ team chemistry began to form and they were making an early push for the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks missed out on LeBron James in the off-season, and they were still missing another piece to go alongside Stoudemire.
In February 2011, the Knicks pulled off a block-buster trade that brought New York native Carmelo Anthony to the bright lights of Madison Square Garden. The Knicks’ early success with Carmelo was ephemeral, and the team struggled after losing nearly half their roster. It took time for the team to get together, but as the playoffs approached the Knicks won seven of their last nine games.
The 2011 NBA Playoffs will start on Sunday for the New York Knicks, and the entire fan base is gearing up for a memorable run.
