After Seven Seasons, the Knicks Are Back in the Playoffs
For the first time since 1990, the New York Knicks will face off with the Boston Celtics in a playoff series. The Knicks and the Celtics have each won six series, and two of the series have gone to a game 7.
Unlike the Knicks, the Celtics are an experienced championship team and nearly ever player has played has the ability to hit clutch shots. However, the Celtics are no longer a dominant defensive team and there is a paucity of physicality. After the trade that sent Kendrick Perkins to Oklahoma City, the Celtics have been struggling and their team chemistry is still in a work in progress.
The Knicks, who are also a fairly small team, will thrive in a seven-game series that lacks size. In order for the Knicks to knock-off Boston, they must control the tempo and emphasis a faster pace to the game. The Celtics are not comfortable running in transition and they much rather prefer a half-court game.
Most importantly, the Knicks have to perform well on the defensive end of the court. Playoff teams win games by stellar defense and the only way to upset the Celtics will be to match their defensive intensity.
Nevertheless, the Knicks-Celtics series will be one of the closely contested match-ups of all-time and fans will be delighted with great games and thrilling finishes.
