Amar’e Stoudemire May Need Surgery During Off-Season
New York Knicks forward Amar’e Stoudemire may need back surgery during the off-season to repair a bulging disc. At this point, Stoudemire is undergoing non-surgical procedures so that he can return to the Knicks sometime this season. If he opted to have surgery sometime in the near future, he would have missed the post-season.
Wellington Hsu, an orthopedic surgeon and spokesman for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, says the temporary relief Stoudemire is receiving is good enough to bring him back to the court.
However, if Stoudemire wants to get rid of this issue and prevent a future occurrence, back surgery is highly recommended. He already experienced back pains last year in the playoffs and it completely ruined the Knicks’ chances of an upset. If he is not 100 percent or close to it come the post-season, the Knicks cannot win a playoff series.
