The New York Knicks began their 2012 pre-season today in Washington D.C. against the Washington Wizards. The pre-season is a time for players to get back into basketball shape and it's a time to build team chemistry.
The Knicks added several new pieces to the roster this season and the team finally got their chance to play against real competition tonight. New York's stars also saw some playing time in D.C., but Amar'e Stoudemire was not one of them. ESPN reports that Stoudemire missed the Knicks' pre-season game due to a bruised left knee.
"If this was a regular-season game, he would play," he [Mike Woodson] told reporters.
The Knicks do not want to risk further injury to Stoudemire's left knee. The injury does not seem to serious, but it would not be wise for the coaching staff to have Stoudemire on the court for an exhibition game.
