Anthony and Hakim Warrick Planning Games
New York Knicks Carmelo Anthony and Phoenix Suns’ Hakim Warrick are trying to schedule exhibition basketball games some time in Sept. Anthony and Warrick were teammates at Syracuse University, and now the former Orange are looking to go head-to-head during this NBA lockout.
After seeing the Melo League play the Goodman League in Baltimore, Warrick was anxious to see how his Philly-based team would fare in a match. ”I was trying to do a Philly and Baltimore game awhile ago,” Warrick told ESPN.com. “Then when I saw Drew League vs. Goodman League and Team Melo vs. Goodman [on Tuesday night], I was like, ‘Man, let me go ahead and set this up.’”
Warrick is expected to bring players from Philadelphia including Tyreke Evans, Richard Hamilton, Jameer Nelson, John Salmon and Kyle Lowry.
As for Carmelo Anthony, Warrick said he would not assemble the same team he did for his game versus the Goodman League. Anthony is expected to recruit now street-ball phenom Kevin Durant and his former NBA teammate Ty Lawson.
The date and location of the game have not been officially announced, but Warrick wants it to be held in a local college. ”Either Temple, St. Joe’s or the Palestra,” Warrick said. “My first choice is the Palestra, because when you think of Philly, especially Big 5 Basketball and all the history, you think of the Palestra.”
