Balkman could be the Knicks Christmas Surprise Gift
Chants of M-V-P was rumbling through the Prudential Center during the first of the two pre-season games between the Knicks and Nets. If you closed your eyes and had to guess who the chants would be for, most would bank their money on Amare Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony, or Deron Williams. But none the less it was for the great Renaldo Balkman.
Balkman finished that game with 20 points in only 22 minutes of play. In the 2nd meeting between these two teams(12/21), Balkman was again productive off the bench, he finished this game with less points(6)in the outing, but he did have 8 rebounds, and his limited minutes(17) did serve to be beneficial. In Game 1, Balkman received an early Holiday gift from Carmelo Anthony with a sick no look Magic Johnson type pass from which he then finished off with a nice two-handed dunk. Then in Game 2 Balkman received another nice pass from ‘Melo from which he then made a “Dunk of the Week” tomahawk style jam.
Check out the Highlights from Game1 and the Tomahawk Jam in Game2:
Balkman seems determined to earn his way on to the court this season, and with a shortened season, Coach D’Antoni will need a deep bench during those back-to-back nights. Number 32 just may be the Holiday surprise that Landry Fields was last season for the Knicks. With Toney Douglas starting at the point guard position until Baron Davis can fully recover from back issues, the Knicks will rely on help from ‘Melo at handling the rock in pressure situations. If Balkman is on the court during those times, the slashing of Number 32 could bring a whole bunch of highlights to Madison Square Garden this season.
Knicks Fans: Do you think Balkman can continue to contribute throughout the regular season or is this just a case of pre-season hype?
