Baron Davis Could Take Starting Spot from Lin
Jeremy Lin has taken the league by storm and has won over the starting spot at the point guard position for the New York Knicks. Lin helped the Knicks win seven consecutive games and re-energized the entire franchise. If it weren’t for Lin, the Knicks would still be battling for the eighth seed and would never have been considered as a possible playoff threat.
Even though Lin is playing at an elite level, there is a chance he could lose his starting role, Marc Berman of the New York Post writes.
When Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni was asked if the starting lineup would change, he told reporters that not everyone is guaranteed to be a starter.
“It could [change],’’ D’Antoni said. “I’m trying to find the right combos. But it’s got to be determined over time. It’s not going to be over one game. Not going to just throw people under the bus for one or two games. Over a length of time, if they prove they need to be out there, they’ll be out there.’’
The Knicks’ second unit played extremely well in the team’s 120-103 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers and D’Antoni applauded Baron Davis’ play. Davis admits that there is a friendly rivalry between him and Lin, so there is clearly a drive to beat the other.
If Davis continues to improve, don’t be shocked if he ends up in the starting five. D’Antoni played the second unit for the majority of the second half and could easily give Davis the bulk of the minutes.
