Baron will rock the number 85 again
Baron will be wearing the number 85 with the Knicks this season, just as he did with the Cavs last season. Davis has worn the #5 or #1 since High-School. When he was traded from the Clippers to the Cavs last season Baron decided to switch to 85.
Here’s the story from back in February via Akron Beacon-Journal:
Davis is viewing his trade from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Cavaliers as a chance at a rebirth. It’s why he has chosen No. 85 as a tribute to his childhood, since he grew up in his grandparents’ house on 85th Street in the Los Angeles area.
”That’s where I had my first basketball court and was introduced to the game,” Davis said Sunday. ”I have to get back to my roots, get back to dribbling — even if I have to dribble in the snow. I want to just enjoy the game, the love of the game and really enjoy this opportunity of being the best basketball player I can be. I think it’s going to happen here.”
Clippers owner Donald Sterling was openly mocking and heckling Davis during games this season.
”You never expect the person who signs you to a contract to be the person who hates you the most,” Davis said.
He was surprised at all the support he received from Cavs fans through his Twitter account in the hours after the trade and is excited to get going after getting a glowing report from Scott on the Cavs’ fans and organization.
”It’s an opportunity to play for fans that have been loyal to their team throughout the whole season,” he said. ‘‘Win or lose, the fans have shown up and supported this organization and this team. What better place to play than where we know when we step into arena, each and every person is rooting for you and rooting for your success? That’s a stage I want to play on and these are people I want to play for.”
