Carmelo Anthony Shines in Record-Breaking Night for Team USA

Carmelo Anthony had one of those games.

In the United States' match against Nigeria, New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony could not miss. Anthony set a Team USA record for the most points scored by an individual with 37, beating Stephon Marbury's mark of 31 during the 2004 Games. Anthony did most of his damage from behind the arc as he hit ten three-point shots.

Team USA ended up beating Nigeria 156-73, an 83-point blowout. The 156 point performance is the most points scored in an Olympic game, beating the 138 point record set by Brazil in the 1988 games.

The entire arena was behind Anthony and it was something even Melo had trouble believing. The Knicks star came down to court with his shoulders shrugged, just like Michael Jordan did against the Portland Trailblazers.

Anthony scored 37 points in just 14 minutes, proving that he can be a very effective player. Although Melo is not a starter for this team, he has accepted the role of a reserve. At the end of the day, Anthony plays in the key moments and can explode for a big night.
