The New York Knicks were once the frontrunners for acquiring Steve Nash and it was expected by many that he would end up in Manhattan. However, the Los Angeles Lakers were the ideal destination for Nash and the Phoenix Suns conjured up a sign-and-trade which sent Nash to Southern California.
Knicks star Carmelo Anthony thought Nash was going to be his new teammate, but was shocked when he ended up in Los Angeles. Nash would have been a perfect fit with this team and would have made Anthony a much more efficient player.
“He made it sound like he was coming,” Anthony said, referring to a conversation he and Nash had last week in Manhattan (New York Daily News). “It was a little shocking when the Lakers came and swooped him up.”
The Knicks have signed point guard Jason Kidd instead and are expected to match the Houston Rockets' offer sheet for Jeremy Lin. Although Nash was the Knicks' first choice, having Kidd and Lin on the roster is still a nice situation.
