Carmelo Anthony: We Need J.R. Smith Down the Stretch
The New York Knicks will have to play the rest of the season without two of their stars. Jeremy Lin and Amar’e Stoudemire are expected to miss a lengthy amount of time and if the Knicks do make the playoffs, those two players may not be able to play.
Stoudemire is dealing with a back injury and Lin will be out for six weeks due to a tear in his meniscus. Thus, this Knicks team will have to rely on Carmelo Anthony the rest of the way. Anthony was the go-to-guy for the Denver Nuggets before, and now he must put New York on his shoulders and guide the team to the post-season.
Still, Anthony needs some help from his team and after the Knicks’ win over the Cavaliers last night, he may have found his second-option. J.R. Smith stepped up big for the Knicks and his 20 points helped the team to a 91-75 win. After the game, Carmelo Anthony talked about Smith and what he expects out of him, New York Post writes.
“We need J.R. to play like that,” Anthony said. “Coming down the stretch, we’re going to need that from him.”
The Knicks will no doubt need a team effort if they want to make a push for the playoffs. The team is currently in the eight spot in the Eastern Conference and should hold on to its lead for the remainder of the season.
