New York Knicks rookie guard Iman Shumpert finished fifth in the NBA's Rookie of the Year voting. Shumpert received 33 total votes and one first-place vote from a pool of 120 writers and broadcasters.
In his first NBA season, Shumpert emerged as one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA and gave the Knicks a lot at that position. Shumpert usually guarded the opponents' best scorer and the coaching staff could rely on him to play stellar defense.
Cleveland Cavaliers' Kyrie Irving won the award, despite the injuries he faced in 2011-12.
Shumpert's season came to an end during the Knicks' series against the Miami Heat, a bad ending to a great rookie campaign.
