J.J. Barea to the Knicks?
“I still haven’t signed with nobody,”J.J. Barea, who helped the Dallas Mavericks torch the Miami Heat for their first NBA title in June, told the Daily News Friday. “That’s still got me a little. … I just want to know where I’m going to be. That’s still my first option (signing with Dallas). I know other teams are interested. I just want to know where I’m going to be, but it’s a business.”
“I always said the Knicks would be a great second option. I love the city. I love the way they’re playing now, their style of play with D’Antoni, the players over there,” said Barea, who was in Punta Cana to support slugger David Ortiz’s annual charity golf tournament. “We’ll see. I know Carmelo more than Amar’e. I think after (D’Antoni became coach), I said, ‘That would be a great fit for me.’”
The big question with this scenario is if the deal makes any sense at all?
The Knicks point guard situation has been the subject of countless Chris Paul rumors, if these stories are indeed valid then the addition of J.J. Barea would be a moot point. Any deal for CP3 would almost certainly involve Chauncey Billups, so the only viable position of J.J. would be of a back-up role which Toney Douglas has seemed to flourish at in MDA’s “Run & Gun” system. So what may seem as a nice addition to the core of STAT & Melo’s new Knicks may simply not fit well in the long term.
What Knicks fans should take from stories like these are the fact good young players are now eager to join the Knicks future.
