J.R. Smith Not Sure Where to Play Next Season
New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith has shown the world that he has the ability to score 20 points on any given night. Smith can catch fire at any point of the game and has helped the Knicks finish opponents on several occasions.
Although Smith had a rough post-season, the Knicks would still like to have him on the team next season. However, the front-office is not sure if Smith would like to come back to the Knicks.
Smith can chose to exercise his one-year option for around $2.5 million, or he can test free-agency and get a bigger, long-term contract. Still, if you ask Smith’s father, he would want his son to stay in New York.
A source told ESPN New York that Smith’s father, Earl, is going to make a strong case for his son to stay in New York, but “it’s very clear that the money is the biggest factor with him.”
Smith decided to come to the Knicks based on money issues, and he could leave the city based on that same logic. Smith fit in with this system well, but the Knicks may not have him here in 2012-13.
