A source close to James Posey said the Knicks have been in contact with the forward as recently as Monday. The source said Posey has been in talks with a number of teams and, as of Monday night, no deal had been struck. According to a report Monday from the Boston Globe, the Celtics are not interested in re-signing Posey, who was a key piece to their 2008 NBA championship team.
Posey was amnestied by the Indiana Pacers and cleared waivers, so he is free to sign with any team.
Other Knicks targets of interest may include Al Thornton and Bostjan Nachbar.
Mike D'Antoni was asked about the possibility of adding another player to the roster on Monday.
"Maybe," the coach said. "If something makes sense. I know [interim GM] Glen [Grunwald] will look and try to exhaust all the avenues. And if we can get a guy ... great. If not, that's fine. We're good to go."
Posey is great spot up shooter, he's not as good from the three as Shawne Williams was, but he can jump in and give the Knicks very positive minutes. He also is as very good defender, Posey was with the Celtics during the championship run and understands what it takes to be committed throughout an entire season to defense. I would rather see the Knicks make the deal for him instead of the other options in Al Thornton and Bostjan Nachbar. Posey can be used as a hybrid defender, he can chase around some 2's, most 3's, and smaller 4's. With a shortened season, the Knicks, like most teams will be going deep into their teams bench during those back to back nights. Posey can give you short bursts of quality minutes.
Would you sign James Posey?
