Knicks Being Patient With Jeremy Lin Signing

The New York Knicks will be patient when it comes to pursuing point guard Jeremy Lin this off-season. Lin will become a restricted free-agent come July 1, and the Knicks are expected to re-sign him.

However, general manager Gren Grunwald is not sure what type of contract to offer Lin and will wait to see how other teams approach him. Grunwald will allow the free-agency market to set Lin’s price-tag and since the Knicks can match any offer, they are essentially in control.

The Knicks can offer Lin a four-year, $24.5 million deal, but the team will not make that move unless its necessary.

“This new circumstance of the new collective bargaining agreement,I’m not sure how teams are going to operate, how agents are going to operate,’’ Grunwald said (New York Post). “Are people going to wait and see? I’m not certain how it will play out.’’

Many teams will be going after Jeremy Lin in the off-season, but luckily for the Knicks they are in control. The front-office can dictate the negotiations and it can bring back the Harvard graduate if it really wants to.
