Knicks Boo Birds are Howling
Madison Square Garden can be the best and worst arena for a New York athlete to play in, the love and appreciation you can receive from fans is unmatched. On the other hand, when that same team is not putting forth the effort they should, the Garden will let you feel their agony. During the putrid losing performance, the Garden faithful began to “boo” and eventually start the “fire D’Antoni” chants.
With about 2:23 left to play on Friday and the Knicks down 12, the chant started raining down.
Calls of “Fire D’Antoni!” mixed in with loud boos for New York, which was well on its way to a fifth straight loss“I don’t blame them,” D’Antoni said. “Half my family is probably doing that. It goes with the territory. We’re not playing well.”
Booing in the Garden is nothing new, but chants of the coach being fired usually leads to just that. Back in 2008 the chants were directed at then coach/team president Isiah Thomas, the “fire Isiah” chants were so bad that fans were chanting even when the Knicks were winning games. I’m not sure if its to that level with Mike D’Antoni, but we are sure that change on the court is needed immediately.
How many more games can the Knicks lose before those chants turn into coaching changes?
