Knicks Can Potentially Clinch Playoff Spot Tonight
The New York Knicks can punch their ticket to the 2012 NBA Playoffs if the Milwaukee Bucks lose tonight in their game against the Indiana Pacers.
The Knicks enter tonight 3.5 games ahead of the Bucks in the Eastern Conference standings and are currently sitting at the seventh spot. The Knicks have a record of 33-29 and their next game will come tomorrow when they play the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Bucks are 29-32 and are fighting for their playoff lives every night. If the Bucks end up losing tonight, the most wins they can get this season is 33. The Knicks are already at 33 wins and if things go bad for the Knicks, they will end the season at 33-33. If the Knicks do go .500 for the 2011-12 season, they could potential have the same record as the Bucks, figuring they lose tonight but win out the season.
Since the Knicks and Bucks split their season series at 2-2, we will have to move onto the next tie breaker. However, that could also end up not deciding a winner and a third tie-breaker will be needed: record against playoff teams in conference.
The Knicks are 10-12 against Eastern Conference playoff teams and Milwaukee is 6-18 against playoff teams in conference. So based on that, the Knicks would make their way to the NBA playoffs.
So Knicks fans better be rooting for the Pacers tonight.
