Madison Square Garden Company, with executive James Dolan, has bought the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, Calif. The arena was once the home of the Los Angeles Lakers and Kings, and has been purchased by the New York City company for $23.5 million.
“We are honored to be adding the Forum to our iconic list of venues, and to call Inglewood our West Coast home,” James Dolan, executive chairman of New York-based MSG, said in the statement. “We look forward to building on the Forum’s outstanding legacy in music, and to utilizing our expertise to ensure it once again becomes a thriving destination for both artists and music fans.”
Dolan is expected to make major changes to the Forum and a huge renovation project will soon be underway. The Forum is an iconic Los Angeles sports building and will forever hold its fame and legendary status.
Most of the memories people have of the Forum are thanks to the Showtime Lakers era orchestrated by Magic Johnson. Johnson led the Lakers to five NBA title under that building and although it is seldom used today, there may be more action inside the arena with Dolan in charge.
