Mike D'Antoni has resigned as the New York Knicks' head coach. D'Antoni and Knicks owner James Dolan agreed on Wednesday that their relationship should end after over three years together.
The Knicks were looking like Eastern Conference contenders a few weeks back, but after losing six consecutive games, everything fell apart in New York. D'Antoni was not forcing defense on his team and the players were not buying into the system. D'Antoni had a clash with star Carmelo Anthony shortly after he came to New York, and those two had not seen eye-to-eye from the beginning.
A source close to the situation said that some players are upset with the departure of D'Antoni and liked to play for him. However, at the end of the day, it is up to the front office to decide what happens.
At this point, assistant coach Mike Woodson will coach the Knicks for the remainder of the season.
