Mike D’Antoni Understands He’s on the Hot Seat
New York Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni knows this upcoming season will determine his future with the franchise. D’Antoni has been criticized for his coaching tactics during his tenure with the Knicks, especially his lack-luster defensive schemes.
D’Antoni was hired by former President of Basketball Operations, Donnie Walsh, but now with Walsh gone it seems as though D’Antoni will soon receive the pink slip also. The Knicks recently hired Mike Woodson as their defensive assistant, and he would make a great replacement if D’Antoni is let go.
“I think all coaches are on a one-year deal,” D’Antoni said. “It’s whether you get a paid vacation, but we all have to do something to earn another year, especially with the Knicks.”
“It’s not like they have to keep [you] around because they’re financially strapped. We have to produce. Whether it’s one or 10, it doesn’t matter. It’s going to come down to next year.”
The Knicks did make the playoff last season under D’Antoni, but he knows the franchise wants nothing short of a championship trophy.
