Carmelo Anthony is one of the most talented basketball players in the NBA, but often times he is left out of the conversation as the best player in the league. Although many consider Anthony as the purest scorer in the NBA, he does not receive the same respect as LeBron James or Kobe Bryant receive. People criticize Anthony for ignoring his teammates and his inability to stay at the optimal condition.
Knicks coach Mike Woodson insisted that Anthony get in better shape this summer, and when Woodson visited his star in Las Vegas, he was very impressed. Anthony has been in the gym everyday in order to play at a high level for the Olympics, and he is motivated to maintain his condition for the Knicks' 2012-13 season.
"He said I was way ahead of schedule," said Anthony, who was pushed by Woody to get into top shape during the offseason. "I think it was big for him to actually be here and just see the work that myself and Tyson [Chandler] has put into the commitment of USA basketball and the commitment of making ourselves better physically, see where we're at mentally. Just to have him here, it was big for him, it was big for us to see that support."
There is no doubt Anthony needed to be more fit last season, and he understands that he must be at the top of his game in order to help the Knicks. The front office and coaching staff must be delighted to see their star so determined to win. The Knicks need their superstar to lead by example and Anthony is doing just that.
With a full training camp, a regular scheduled season and Carmelo Anthony in the best condition, the Knicks are poised for a successful campaign.
