New York Knicks fans were given horrible news when they found out that Jeremy Lin would be sidelined for six weeks due to a tear in his meniscus. However, it seems as though the franchise knew well before the official announcement that Lin had an injury in his knee and they held off the news to sell tickets.
Frank Isola of New York Daily News first brought up the idea that the Knicks did not announce the injury until after the March 28 deadline to buy playoff tickets. Isola writes that the MRI showed the tear in his meniscus two days before the deadline for season ticket holders to get their post-season seats.
On top of that, the e-mail sent out to fans had a picture of Jeremy Lin celebrating, even though he will likely not be playing in the post-season in 2012.
As of this point, the Knicks are 2.5 games ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference. Although chances look good for the Knicks, this was a selfish and profit-driven decision by the franchise.
