Knicks rookie Iman Shumpert was giving a valiant effort in the season-opener before Chris Wilcox of the Celtics rolled onto his right knee.
via NYDailyNews:
Shumpert, the Knicks’ promising rookie guard, strained his right medial collateral ligament with 57.7 seconds left in the third quarter when Boston's Chris Wilcox inadvertently fell into his leg.
"I just have to be tough mentally," Shumpert said. "Those guys told me its a long season. There’ll be bumps in the road. I thought they were talking about some different bumps. Everyone came and said, there goes your bump. I have to just get through it. Im just glad we won on Christmas. I'm just happy."
"It was just more of a scare to me than anything," he added. "I'm just not used to any sort of pain. I don't really get hurt much, so the pain just kind of shocked me."
"What is he, 21 years old or 22?" DAntoni said. "Hell be fine. He'll be all right. It is what it is. Mike Bibby will come in and do a great job. It's too bad for him. I feel sorry for him. Im sure this is a little setback for him but he's going to be really good."
