The last few days in New York all we have heard about with the Knicks, is that they can’t coexist, that Melo and Stat just isn’t going to work, the experiment is over. Then today there were conflicting reports that the Orlando Magic were interested in moving Dwight Howard for Amare Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler, I guess Stat and Chandler heard the reports because they balled hard tonight. The Knicks rolled tonight to a 111-78 win over the Charlotte Bobcats, snapping a 6 games losing streak and improving to (7-10) on the year. This win was the ultimate team effort, and this all occurred with a career low from the Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony, only scoring one point.
Tuesday's game was the first time this year that the team looked in rhythm, the ball movement and movement without the ball was at its best. The Knicks as a team had 26 assists, Mike Bibby did a good job working the pick and roll with Amare, to get him going in the second quarter. The Knicks were dominant on the glass tonight, 53 rebounds for the Knicks as opposed to 33 for the Bobcats was a big difference maker in this game. Tyson Chandler led the teams in rebounding with 17 boards and while Carmelo didn’t score much, he did chip in with 11 boards. Chandler led the team in scoring with 20 points and Amare Stoudemire and Landry Fields both had 18 points. Fields game was a real encouraging sign, because he was very involved in the offense and I think the ball movement really benefitted him the most, we need to see more consistency from Fields going forward.
I am happy with the effort on Tuesday because it showed that this team might be coming together, we should all take it with a grain of salt because it was the Bobcats. A few things that we should look for tomorrow night against Miami; will be to see if Amare can have back to back consistent games and if the Knicks ball movement continues.
