The Knicks Pick-Up Option for Toney Douglas

Yesterday was the deadline for NBA teams to perform options and extensions on player contracts.  New York has decided to retain Toney D's services throughout the 2012-2013 season. He is scheduled to make 2.1 million next season, and a team qualify option in 2013-2014.

The Douglas move seemed like a no-brainer as he will make $2 million in his last season. He also could be a more tradeable asset. Knicks interim general manager Glen Grunwald informed Douglas at the morning walk-through at the team hotel.

“I took it as a positive,’’ said Douglas. “I guess they want me to be here.’’

Keeping Toney is a smart move, the Knicks(Mike D'Antoni) have already shown the world that Douglas is not ready to be a starter, but keeping him as a back-up is the right move. His salary will be small and movable if we need to exchange him for possibly Deron Williams or another big time player this off-season.
