Top Five Knicks Centers
In the last article of the Top 5 series, we look at the greatest centers in New York Knicks history. The Knicks have seen plenty of great centers over the years, and some of franchise’s best players were big men who controlled and dominated the paint. The center position is perhaps the hardest assignment in basketball, it requires a player to anchor the defense and thwart any opponent trying to attack the hoop.
5. Harry Gallatin
Harry Gallatin was drafted but the New York Knicks in the 1948 Draft and he spent nine of his ten NBA seasons playing under the light of Madison Square Garden. Gallatin was known for his consistency and his ability to play despite injuries and setbacks. At one point of his career Gallatin played in 610 consecutive games and he was later rewarded for his play by being inducted into the Hall-of-Fame in 1991. Gallatin appeared in seven All-Star Games and he led the Knicks to seven playoff appearances while averaging 12.7 ppg, 1.8 apg and 9.7 rpg.
