Willis Reed is better known as the “Captain” and the leader of the two Knicks’ championship teams in the early 1970s. Reed won the Finals MVP in 1970 and 1973, and the Knicks relied on their big man to take and make clutch shots. Perhaps the most memorable moment is Knicks history occurred in the 1970 NBA Finals when Willis Reed made an emotional return from an injury to galvanize the fans and his teammates.

Willis Reed will be forever remembered by Knicks fans, and the two championships he brought to New York are to this day the only trophies in the franchise’s closet. Reed spent his entire ten season NBA career with the Knicks and he averaged 18.7 points per game, 1.8 assists per game and 12.9 rebounds per game.
