While the Knicks were getting their revenge against the Bobcats at Madison Square Garden on Monday, across the river the New Jersey Nets were facing the Atlanta Hawks. Ex-Knick Tracy McGrady is now with the Hawks and Mitch Lawrence of the NYPost caught up with him and asked him about his former team from NY.
“I mean, when you go to a team like New York, with the stars they have, obviously there is a certain amount of pressure on Tyson and them. My situation is definitely different from someone like Tyson Chandler and guys like Lamar Odom and Vince Carter who went to Dallas, because Dallas is coming off a championship season. It’s just different for me to fit in here.”
McGrady sounded a little resentful when he said, “I don't care about the Knicks.” But he insisted it had nothing to do with his role as a salary-cap pawn.
“I don’t know what Baron will bring them,” McGrady said. “If he is motivated... when he is motivated, he is one of the best point guards in this league. At this stage of his career, who knows?”
“With Baron, the motivation question is something we’ll just have to find out,” McGrady said. “You don’t know about that. The last few years haven’t been very exciting for him. The last time I saw excitement on Baron Davis’ face — and saw it when I looked at his body language — was when he was with Golden State.”
“If they get that Baron Davis, the Knicks can be pretty damned good,” McGrady said.
